Kelly Burdette graduated from VMRCVM in 1992 and opened Town & Country Veterinary Clinic the summer after. As the sole owner of the hospital, she has overseen its remarkable growth from a one-doctor practice with two employees to a 10-doctor, 24-hour, full-service veterinary hospital with over 70 staff members. Dr. Burdette has special interests and additional training in soft tissue surgery and ultrasound. She performs many of the specialized surgeries currently available at the practice. These surgeries include PDA’s (patent ductus arteriosus surgery), TECA’s (total ear ablations), PU’s (perineal urethrostomy), brachycephalic surgery, liver lobectomies, anal gland removal, and many more.

With great skill and dedication, Dr. Burdette adeptly balances her roles as a small animal veterinarian and hospital director at Town & Country Veterinary Clinic with the cherished time she spends with her three amazing adult daughters. Her passion for animals was cultivated during her upbringing in Maryland, where her mother, Joyce Burdette, instilled in her a deep love for all creatures great and small. Since moving to the New River Valley in 1988, Dr. Burdette has remained dedicated to serving her community and providing quality veterinary care to pets in need.

Dr. Deb Tucker was born and raised in New England, relocating to Virginia in 1999. She received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from the Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine in May of 2004 and joined Town & Country Veterinary Clinic as a full-time Veterinarian in June of 2004.

Dr. Tucker has completed additional training in orthopedic surgery, soft tissue surgery, and abdominal ultrasound. She specializes in orthopedic surgeries which include… fracture repairs, patella stabilizations, TPLO surgeries, and lateral suture stabilizations which both address cranial cruciate ligament injuries. She also performs a broad spectrum of other orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries, specialty surgeries, and endoscopies.

Practicing veterinary medicine and helping pets and their families is Deb’s passion. Her hobbies include woodworking, horseback riding, and spending time with her husband Dave, and their dogs, cats, and horses.

Dr. Sarah Canevari joined Town & Country Veterinary Clinic in 2014. Dr. Canevari is from Northern Michigan where her love for animals grew on her family’s farm. She received her doctorate of veterinary medicine from Ross University and completed her clinical training at Cornell University. Dr. Canevari’s special interests include cardiology and emergency medicine. She has pursued additional training in cardiology and performs echocardiograms and abdominal ultrasounds.

Dr. Canevari raises American Quarter Horses and competes in Reined Cowhorse. She and her husband Nick enjoy riding horses and traveling.

Dr. Nicholas Canevari joined Town & Country Veterinary Clinic in 2015. His interests include orthopedic surgery, with additional training in advanced fracture repair and the TPLO procedure.Dr. Canevari received his doctorate of veterinary medicine from Ross University and he completed his clinical training at Virginia-Maryland Regional College of Veterinary Medicine. Prior to veterinary school, Dr. Canevari worked as a contractor in New York City.

In his free time, Dr. Canevari and his wife Sarah enjoy competing quarter horses in Reined Cowhorse competitions.

Dr. Shepherd is originally from Lebanon, VA. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at Virginia Tech.She then attended Virginia-Maryland College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated with honors in 2014. Following graduation, she completed a one-year internship of additional training in emergency and internal medicine. She worked at a small animal specialty hospital in Pennsylvania prior to moving back to New River Valley where she has been practicing at TCVC since 2016.

Her professional interests include internal medicine, critical care, and soft-tissue surgery. She has completed additional continuing education in abdominal ultrasound and emergency medicine/surgery.

Dr. Shepherd lives in Blacksburg with her husband, two children, and three fur children. Her favorite pastimes include traveling, reading, and spending time outdoors.

Kaitlynn Graham, DVM

Dr. Kaitlynn Graham earned a Bachelor’s in Animal and Poultry Sciences from Virginia Tech in 2012 and a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine at Lincoln Memorial University-College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018 as part of the inaugural class. She has special interests in emergency and critical care, ultrasonography, and nutrition.

Dr. Graham has two dogs—Colby and Ella as well as a three-legged cat named Roo. In her free time, she enjoys traveling, baking, and watching football—Go Hokies!

Dr. Graham is excited about being back in the New River Valley and building relationships with our clients and their pets!

Katy Bailey, DVMOur Veterinarians | Town and Country Veterinary Clinic and Emergency Hospital (7)

Dr. Katy Bailey hails from Southaven, MS, and earned her bachelor’s degree in biological science from Mississippi StateUniversity. She pursued her doctorate in veterinary medicine at the same institution, completing her studies in 2016. During her time at Mississippi State, she met her husband, Dr. Garrett Bailey, which led to her relocation to Virginia.

After spending two years working at a rural small animal practice in Campbellsville, KY, Dr. Bailey joined Town & Country in 2019. When not practicing veterinary medicine, Dr. Bailey enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She is a proud parent to three children and several four-legged companions who keep her busy.

Dr. Garrett Bailey joined Town and County in August of 2022 as an overnight emergency veterinarian. Dr. Bailey is from southern West Virginia and graduated from West Virginia University in 2007. He loves his Mountaineers and we try to not hold that against him. He attended Mississippi State College of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 2016.He practiced as a mixed animal veterinarian for 6 years and has always had a special interest in emergency medicine. He joined the team at Town & Country in 2022.

Dr. Bailey and his wife, Dr. Katy Bailey, live on a small farm in Giles County, Va with their daughter Mary Jo and son James Walter (JW). They are accompanied by a mess of hound dogs and a handful of cattle. Dr. Bailey is an avid outdoorsman and thoroughly enjoys time in the woods. In his free time, he is usually spending time with his family or chasing his hounds through the surrounding mountains.

Paula Horteloup, DVM

Dr. Paula Horteloup was born in Patagonia and raised in Buenos Aires City, Argentina. In 1999, Dr. Horteloup received her degree in veterinary medicine in Argentina where she practiced for many years. In 2004, she completed her Residency in Theriogenology and obtained also her Master of Science degree in Veterinary Clinical Sciences.

In 2013, with her family, they moved to Virginia. In 2016, Dr. Horteloup became certified as a Doctor in Veterinary Medicine through the ECFVG Program. Her special interests include general practice, client education, emergency medicine, and reproduction.

Dr. Horteloup lives with her two kids, her husband, and a Scottish Terrier! She loves sailing and landscaping in her free time and always, spending time with her family! And, as an Argentinean, she is passionate since a kid about polo and horses!
