1. Mellow Mushroom Blacksburg

If you’re in the mood for pizza, then Mellow Mushroom is a great choice!

They’re a local favorite just a 6-minute walk from Virginia Tech. They specialize in stone-baked pizzas, and even use Appalachian spring water to make their crust!

For extra flavor, Mellow Mushroom pizzas are made with garlic butter and sprinkled with Parmesan cheese.

Meat lovers will want to try the Mighty Meaty (with pepperoni, Italian sausage, ground beef, honey ham, and applewood-smoked bacon), while cheese lovers will love the Great White (with an olive oil and garlic base, layered with mozzarella, provolone, seasoned ricotta, roasted tomatoes, crumbled authentic sheep’s milk feta cheese, Roma tomatoes, sweet onions, and basil.)

If you’re feeling adventurous, try The Merry Prankster (with an herb aioli base, layered with chicken, Italian sausage, garlic roasted red peppers, green bell peppers, mozzarella, Wisconsin-aged white cheddar, and herb aioli drizzle.)

The Holy Shiitake Pie is another creative choice with an olive oil and garlic base, roasted shiitake mushrooms, button and portobello mushrooms, caramelized onions, mozzarella, Wisconsin-aged white cheddar cheese, fresh chives, shaved Parmesan, garlic aioli, and black truffle oil.

Beyond pizza pies, Mellow Mushroom features hoagies, calzones, burgers, salads and more.

And you can pair your meal with a wide variety of drinks, including margaritas, sangria, and of course, wine and beer.

2. The Blacksburg Tavern

The Blacksburg Tavern is a truly unique historical site in Blacksburg. It’s located in the oldest building on Main Street, dating back to 1892.

Part of the tavern’s mission is to preserve the historic site and promote regional art and artists. The interior features beautiful murals and photographs depicting the history of the building and Main Street. The wood-trimmed design is reminiscent of classic colonial homes throughout Virginia.

The restaurant focuses on farm-to-table fare like chicken, beef, ham, vegetables, biscuits, and apple butter.

Some of the hearty dishes include Tavern Chili, Brisket Sandwich, and Meatloaf. They also serve family-style dinners that are perfect for parties or large groups. The dinners include Fried Chicken, and a choice of Meatloaf, Baked Ham, or Beef Brisket.

If you save room for dessert, try the pie and ice cream featuring the pie of the day!

3. Cellar Restaurant

If you’re in the mood for great Greek food and craft beer, look no further than Cellar Restaurant. It has a fun and funky interior design with wood-paneled walls and bright wall decorations. It also has an excellent location in downtown Blacksburg and right next to Virginia Tech.

Cellar Restaurant specializes in Greek favorites like Spanakopita, Tzatziki Dip, and my personal favorite: Greek gyro with lamb, beef, tzatziki sauce, tomato, and lettuce.

Beyond Greek fare, you can also find a huge selection of entrees like calzones, baked subs, and cheesesteaks, plus entrees like Salmon, Ravioli Florentine, Baked Ziti, Meat Lasagna, and much more.

There is also a large variety of pizzas, plus soups and salads. So you definitely won’t run out of options!

For dessert, make sure to leave room for Baklava!
