Amazon is looking for a talented and self-motivated Environmental Management System (EMS) Program Manager to support Amazon Web Services (AWS), a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon.com. The successful candidate will join the AWS Environmental team, an expanding and dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWS’s growth around the world, as well as ensuring compliance of AWS’s global operations, including physical data centers, as well as other AWS facilities, customer-facing enterprises and products. The Environmental team has responsibility for building and implementing AWS’s global environmental programs. We are searching for a Program Manager to partner with internal teams in the field and corporate-levels to serve as the central technical resource to drive highest level of data center environmental compliance management systems on behalf of our customers demand for ISO 14001 EMS (Environmental Management System). An EMS is a set of processes and technologies/tools that collectively through data driven decisions, enable the Enviro Team, both in the field and programs, to systematically and continually, over time, reduce its environmental impacts and increase its program scalability throughout all data centers in the field, its operating effectiveness and efficiency. The successful candidate will have a results-oriented approach, strong analytical skill set, and proven ability to independently lead complex projects across multiple teams. You will be expected to represent the AWS Environmental team internally as well as to external groups, including vendors, customers, and policy makers. You will be responsible for developing, implementing and standardizing our EMS programs globally as well as developing metrics and reporting progress to internal stakeholders. The optimal candidate is a high-judgment, EMS subject matter expert with a proven track record of success building and improving EMS. This individual will focus on implementing programs that ensure we meet our regulatory and sustainability obligations globally while also driving continuous improvements in our EMS program.
Key job responsibilities
Uses expertise and judgement to define region and/or global EMS and compliance goals and design a long-term risk mitigating strategies in collaboration with field and programmatic internal and external stakeholders in multiple countries regionally and globally.
Leads independently with limited guidance.
Manages execution of tactical and strategic objectives and goals throughout the organization to enable an EMS. Collaborate closely with internal Enviro and InfraOps teams to conduct pro-active identify risks in the field and programs, facilitate stakeholder reviews, implement short term mitigations, and executing long-term strategies and programs including technical and tactical support for field or data center specific projects.
Establishes workflows, service level agreements (SLAs), and operational excellence mechanisms.
Ensure work outcomes are auditable, decisions are data driven and work quality measurable.
Participate in 1-3 year strategic initiatives and long term planning regionally and globally.
Writes effective communications.
Actively learns to influence and negotiate priorities.
Determines where to simplify or extend solutions for the best outcomes. Drives sharing of best practices.
Able to manage complex problems, decisions, and escalations to mitigate long-term risks. Finds path forward in difficult situations. Makes trade-offs: short vs. long-term needs.

The AWS Environmental (Enviro) team is an expanding and dynamic team that is critical to enabling AWS’s growth around the world, as well as ensuring compliance of AWS’s global operations, including physical data centers, as well as other AWS facilities, customer-facing enterprises and products. The Enviro team has responsibility for architecting and implementing AWS’s global environmental programs. This includes defining and implementing risk management and compliance systems and driving their continuous improvement; setting and refining global policies and procedures; overseeing the development of standards, technology for Environmental Management Systems, auditing and metrics, and employee training; ensuring effective engagement by environmental teams on global initiatives, including those that are part of Amazon’s ambitious sustainability goals; providing specialist expertise; and engaging with all AWS business units to provide scalable and effective environmental compliance risk management strategies that support current and future business objectives while ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, or a related field.
8+ years of experience serving as a regional and/or global environmental management systems technical resource managing complex environmental compliance initiatives and programs across functional teams, building processes that scale globally in a fast paced, growing organization including: compliance obligations, risk assessments, performance indicators, environmental controls, emergency preparedness and response plans, training, internal and external audits, environmental incidents, and continual improvements.
8+ years of experience managing regionally distributed/dispersed teams
5+ years of experience in managing field/site-level and multi-site level technical EMS and environmental compliance regionally
5+ years of experience managing deployment and implementation of environmental management information systems (EMIS Including AI) and technology (i.e Gensuite, AUSTIN, Salesforce, Enablon)
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in science, engineering or a related field
Experience in regional and/or global EMS and compliance management in cloud-based infrastructure companies preferred
10+ years of experience in multinational company EMS and compliance program development, deployment, implementation and verification.
10+ years of experience in developing and maintaining multisite EMS.
10+ years of experience developing and managing environmental management information systems (EMIS)
Experience implementing lean principles and process improvements across multiple organizations and countries.
Excellent communication skills, strong relationship builder, solid influencing and negotiation skills, and the ability to coach at multiple levels.
